Many sneakerheads reading this were probably adolescents back when Nike first introduced the Air More Uptempo. Back in the days, everyone wanted to lace up in a pair of the Air More Uptempo after watching Scottie Pippen wearing them on the court. Since next year marks the 20th Anniversary of this dope Nike Basketball classic, so the Air More Uptempo is being brought back for a Nike release 2016 in two different colorways in order to commemorate this milestone.
The sneaker community first laid eyes upon the Nike Air More Uptempo back in 1996 and ever since, the silhouette has been retroed a couple of times. Back in ’96, everyone was rocking the Air More Utempo and a pair even appeared in the 1997 film starring Brendan Fraser, George of the Jungle. A pair of the Air More Utempo was also worn by Scottie Pippen as he made his way to winning NBA Championship as a member of the Chicago Bulls. Earlier this year, there were reports that Nike was planning to bring back the Air More Utempo twenty years later since it was first released, and now catalog photos of the model’s two upcoming colorways have also surfaced.
When it comes to Nike branding, the thing that makes the Air More Utempo one of Nike’s boldest models is the visibly oversized “AIR” that cover the sides of the sneaker. Not only is the Air More Utempo returning in its popular original black and white iteration, Nike has also whipped up a white and red colorway that is likely a nod to the Scottie Pippen and the Chicago Bulls.
A Nike release 2016 is definitely confirmed for the returning Air More Utempo. In fact, the “Black/White” colorway is being rumored to arrive at retailers on January 1st, 2016, so the remaining months of this year are sure to raise the anticipation of old school sneakerheads.
