he adidas Iniki Runner is without a doubt one of the brand’s most popular running shoes. Earlier this month, adidas Originals revealed that Iniki Runner was receiving a complete makeover for the Fall/Winter season, being transformed into a completely brand new model dubbed the I-5923. Apart from the Iniki Runner, the I-5923 also draws inspiration from running shoe models that have been in the adidas archive. Perhaps sneakerheads thought that the I-5923 would be the only brand new running model that adidas would unveil by the time 2017 ended. However, it turns out that adidas has whipped up another revamped variation of the Iniki Runner, dubbed the N-5923.
As mentioned, the I-5923 draws inspiration from classic running shoes that adidas had designed back in the 70s, borrowing and combining their unique features. This is the reason that the I-5923 looks so modern yet impeccably clean. adidas seems to have constructed the uppers of the I-5923 using knitted mesh material, while its heels, lace system and toeboxes are made up of premium suede. Completing the vintage aesthetic of this model, the adidas “3-stripes” branding appears to have been serrated onto the sides, while its heels panels and tongues feature the adidas “Trefoil” branding. The adidas I-5923 is also equipped with classic Gum Rubber outsoles.
The adidas N-5923 looks quite similar to the I-5923 and also draws inspiration from classic, vintage adidas running shoe models, including the Iniki Runner. However, the N-5923 looks far more streamlined, with mesh uppers that appear to be sporting detailing that has apparently been heated-welded onto them. To provide the wearer’s feet additional support, the heels feature TPU inserts instead of the Iniki’s traditional suede panels. The N-5923 is also equipped with Boost midsoles instead of the traditional EVA cushioning, which is a modern addition. So far, adidas has only unveiled a “Core Black” and a “Core Blue” colorway of the N-5923, which are featured here.
The adidas I-5923 is scheduled to make its retail debut in a “Core White” and a “Crystal Red” colorway on December 1st, 2017. The adidas N-5923 “Core Black” and “Core Blue” have already arrived a select retailers, and a pair of each colorway should still be available at a price of just $90.
