After its original debut 19 years ago, the Air Jordan 5 “Laney” has been redesigned to join this year’s Air Jordan releases 2019. Ever since originally made its retail debut on May 10th, 2000 at a price of $120, it is the only colorway to have been inspired by the Emsley A. Laney High School, where Michael Jordan once studied and played basketball. Thirteen years later, Jordan Brand re–released the Air Jordan 5 “Laney” and it was slightly different then. The “Air Jordan” branding under the tongues featured different hues, “Jumpman” logo on its heels were Black rather than Blue, and the lace locks were more colorful.
The 2000 Air Jordan 5 “Laney” Was Truly Worth Copping
There were multiple reasons that made the Air Jordan 5 “Laney” from 2000 stand out, compared to the original. For instance, the soles of the 2013 version were not as prone to cracking as those of the original pairs. In fact, it was equipped with icy, translucent, Blue–tinted soles that would not turn yellow. Like the original, the uppers of this retro version were also made up of topnotch tumbled leather. Above all, the Air Jordan 5 “Laney” from 2013 was relatively cheaper compared to OG pairs. However, no one could have imagined that it would be reimagined as a part of the Air Jordan releases 2019 five years later.
This New Air Jordan 5 “Laney” Variation Is Arriving In Both Adult & GS Sizes
While still paying tribute to Michael Jordan’s high school, Jordan Brand seems to have brightened up the Air Jordan 5 “Laney.” Jordan Brand has still borrowed from the color scheme of the Emsley A. Laney High School, but instead of having plain White uppers, the nubuck uppers of this iteration are predominantly dressed up in Varsity Royal. Light Charcoal and Varsity Maize can also be spotted throughout. Additionally, its Light Charcoal–colored midsoles are covered in Black and White speckles. It also happens to be equipped with icy, translucent outsoles with a Blue tint, similar to the Air Jordan 5 “Laney” from 2013.
