It seems that history will be repeating itself in 2017. Last year, adidas brought back the Athen trainer model after 50 years since they had originally dropped it. Back in 1967 when adidas first introduced the Athen as an all-round sports shoe, it was actually known as the Jaguar. Adidas released it as an early design for their City Series. It was in 2004 that shoe was named Athen after the Greek capital city that hosted Olympics that year. The same adidas Athen colorway was brought back as a size? exclusive and apparently the model is once again arriving as a size? exclusive, but in a brand new colorway.
As mentioned, this trainer got its name from Athens and its colorway from 2004, which returned last year as a size? exclusive, drew inspiration from Greece. Therefore, it was dressed up in a combination of Blue and White, the colors that appear on the flag of Greece. Of course, maintaining its classic look, it was equipped with its signature Gum Rubber soles, adding the finishing touch to its clean appearance. However, this was not the only colorway of the model that adidas dropped last year. On the contrary, another colorway of the model arrived exclusively at size? later that year and this one was dressed up in Red and White.
Hopefully, sneakerheads had not forgotten about the adidas Athen and if they have, they have likely gotten an adequate reminder. The official photos of the sneaker accompanying this post, and a few others, were published on the size? Blog and as can be seen, its uppers are once again made up of suede, covered almost entirely in a shade of Green. Its uppers also feature clean White-colored leather overlays, including its signature Three Stripes. Furthermore, the “Athen” branding that it features is covered in Gold-colored foil and it is equipped with Gum Rubber soles.
This brand new colorway of this trainer has been dubbed “Forest Green” and as mentioned, it will exclusively be available at size?. Fortunately, sneakerheads will not have to wait too long because it is scheduled to retail there on May 12th, 2017.
