Back in 1999, adidas introduced the Predator Accelerator football boots and only 999 pairs of its “Electricity” colorway were released worldwide back then. David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane, who are regarded as football legends today, both wore those cleats during the heights of their respective careers. They both also happen to be leading adidas endorsers from the world of professional football. Nineteen years later, adidas has apparently brought the two football legends together for the return of the Predator Accelerator “Electricity.” Not only is adidas bringing back the classic cleats from the late ‘90s, they have even transformed it into a modern day trainer, which will also be releasing.
It is likely no coincidence that these football boots have been brought back at this time when the Quarterfinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup are underway. If you do not already know, the last match of the Quarterfinals is scheduled to take place on July 7th and it will be Croatia vs. Russia. Sandro Ricci, the Brazilian referee, is the one who will be officiating the match. As of now, Brazial seems to be a favorite and the leading candidate to win the World Cup. Moreover, most of predictions circulating online suggest that Croatia will defeat Russia in the final game.
Although it is a classic, the Predator Accelerator seems to have been upgraded for modern times. The cleats have Primeknit uppers while the uppers of the trainer are made up of kangaroo leather. Both appear to have been designed to be lace-less, featuring fold-over tongues and rubber forefoot pads, while their uppers also have the adidas “three stripes” overlapping them. The cleats are also equipped with lightweight Sprintframe outsoles, while the trainer is equipped with full-length Boost cushioning instead of TPU midsoles. Just like the original “Electricity” colorway, their intricately abstract uppers are dressed up in a combination of Core Black, Solar Yellow and Solar Red.
As a reference to the year in which adidas originally released the Predator Accelerator “Electricity,” a total of 1,999 pairs of both the cleats and the trainer. They are both going to make their retail debut on July 5th, with the cleats retailing at a price of $350, while the trainer will be available for $250.
