Respect Your Roots is adidas Skateboarding’s ongoing series through which they honor and pay tribute to legends of the sport. Over the recent years, adidas has been celebrating skateboarding heritage and paying homage to legendary skateboarders with their “Respect Your Roots” Collections. Back in 2015, the adidas Skateboarding’s “Respect Your Roots” Collection paid homage to Drake Jones, Joey Blast, Kareem Campbell and Richard Angelides. For each of these skateboarding pioneers, adidas designed a Superstar iteration that was inspired by the shell-toed shoes that they adopted back in the days. adidas Skateboarding’s latest “Respect Your Roots” Collection is specifically a tribute to professional skateboarder, Brian Lotti.
In addition to being a professional skateboarder, Brian Lotti also happens to be a filmmaker and visual artist. He was at the peak of his skateboarding career between the 80s and 90s, and it was during that period that he invented the “Bigspin” skateboard trick. His skateboarding style became known for its fluidity. Currently though, he resides in Los Angeles and spends most of his time painting urban landscapes. Apparently, Brian was interested in landscapes ever since his skateboarding and filmmaking days. Even back then, Brian would paint figures lazing in Echo Park and he also painted a wide range of sporting activities.
adidas Skateboarding’s upcoming “Respect Your Roots” Collection primarily consists of a special Campus 80s iteration, considering that the model has been reissued especially for this collection. Additionally, it also includes custom long- and short-sleeved shirts featuring prints of Brian’s original artwork. The Campus 80s, the model Brian wore during his early skateboarding career, has uppers made up of premium nubuck with leather detailing throughout. The tongues feature special woven tabs that read “Brian Lotti” and “Endorsed by:” followed by a sketch of his face. Like the shirts, his artwork is also printed over the custom sockliners. Last but not least, this Campus 80s is equipped with herringbone rubber cupsoles.
This “Respect Your Roots” Collection is scheduled to make its retail debut on the adidas Skateboarding website and only at certain specialty retailers on September 22th, 2018. The Brian Lotti x adidas Campus 80s will be available at a price of $90.
