Back in Fall 2016, adidas unveiled and eventually released the Ultra Boost 3.0. In March 2017, sneakerheads received their very first preview of the Ultra Boost 4.0. The adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 made its retail debut in December 2017, just in time for last year’s holiday season. Compared to the Ultra Boost 3.0, the profile of the 4.0 is a bit sleeker. Additionally, adidas upgraded Primeknit construction of the uppers for the Ultra Boost 4.0, which sported pinstripe detailing throughout. At the same time though, the Ultra Boost 4.0 was still equipped with full-length Boost sole units, the signature “Three Stripe” caging system and TPU heel counters.
This latest adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 colorway has been designed for the Chinese New Year. For most of us, the new year has already begun. However, the Chinese New Year is scheduled to begin on February 16th. According to the Chinese 12-year zodiac cycle, 2018 is supposed to be the Year of the Dog. According to the cycle, the Year of the Dog is going to last until February 4th, 2019. The previous Year of the Dog was 2006 and the next Year of the Dog will be 2030. The dog is considered an auspicious animal, which is the reason it is a part of the Chinese zodiac cycle.
Considering that this colorway of the Ultra Boost 4.0 is inspired by the Chinese New Year, it is not surprising that it has been dubbed “Year of the Dog.” The Primeknit uppers of this sneaker are predominantly dressed up in Black and Red. The inner lining, laces and tongue feature a unique pattern, while its “Three Stripe” caging system and TPU heel counters are covered in Black. It is also equipped with White-colored Boost midsols and Red-colored Continental outsoles. Adding the finishing touch to its Chinese New Year-inspired theme, a special Chinese character with dog fangs surrounding it can also be spotted.
Sneakerheads who wish to cop the adidas Ultra Boost 4.0 “Year of the Dog” right away will have to head over to select adidas stores and spend $180. Those who would rather shop for this sneaker online will have to wait till February 1st, 2018.
