adidas, Parley for the Oceans and Runtastic recently teamed up a “Run for the Oceans” 5k run in Los Angeles. The run began at 7:00pm on June 8th 2018 at the Temescal Gateway Park and was followed by a celebration party, of sorts. In addition to the runners, celebrities, environmentalists, influencers, ocean ambassadors and professional athletes were also present. This run was organized as an effort to inspire people to take action and make a positive change for the oceans of the world. In addition to raising funds for the Parley Ocean Plastic program, two adidas Running shoes also made their unexpected, exclusive retail debut in limited numbers.
It turns out that between 11 other similar major running events will be taking place worldwide, across 6 major cities, concluding on July 8th. Apparently, all of the runners who will participate will be using the Runtastic app, raising $1 per kilometer for the Parley Ocean Plastic program, which will be contributed by adidas. Up to a total of $1 million may end up being raised for the program. People who might not be able to participate in the events can even run in their own cities and log their kilometers by downloading the Runtastic app and becoming a part of the the “Run for the Oceans.”
The adidas Running shoes that ended up making their limited retail debut at the “Run for the Oceans” 5k run at Temescal Gateway Park were the UltraBOOST Parley and the UltraBOOST X. Both were inspired by the fragile nature of the oceans at this point. In addition to being very advanced in terms of performance, they are also environment friendly. Their Primeknit uppers are made up of Parley Ocean Plastic™ plastic derived from plastic bottles and they are equipped with energy‐return BOOST™ midsoles. Already available online, these adidas Running shoes will retail at global stores at a price of $200 from June 27th, 2018 and onwards.
