It is currently March 2017. Back in March 2016, Nike unveiled the “Black Mamba” Collection, also known as the “Fade To Black” Collection, in honor of Kobe Bryant’s retirement from NBA. The collection included all of the Nike Kobe signature models, along with 2008’s original Hyperdunk 08 and the renowned Huarache 2k4. The collection was a celebration of Kobe Bryant’s entire partnership with Nike ever since 2003 after he switched over from adidas, which led to the advent of the Kobe line in 2006. While the Air Jordan 31 Low would not fit into the collection, Jordan Brand has designed an iteration that seems like it would.
Even before Nike designed the first Kobe model, Kobe Byrant’s partnership with them led to the creation of some very revolutionary performance models. The foremost of these were the Huarache 2k4 and 2k5. While laced up in his signature silhouettes, Kobe Bryant produced some of NBA’s most iconic and unforgettable moments. The thirteen sneakers from Nike’s “Fade To Black” Collection ended up arriving at retailers almost one after another between March 22nd and April 13th, 2016. All of the sneakers from the collection, from the Huarache 2k4 “FTB” to the Kobe 11 Elite “FTB” retailed at a price of $200.
Nike has already published official photos of this brand new Air Jordan 31 Low colorway, including the one featured above, but it does not actually seem to have an official nickname. However, from the looks of it, sneakerheads will likely agree that “Fade To Black” would be a fitting nickname for this iteration. Its uppers indeed fade from White to Black towards the heels. There appears to be no Nike “Swoosh,” but one side of each shoe features tonal “Jumpman” and “Wings” branding, respectively. This sneaker is also equipped with Black-colored midsoles and icy, translucent outsoles.
Of course, this model from Jordan Brand has no connection to Kobe Bryant, but it would undeniably fit within Nike’s “Fade To Black” Collection. While an exact release date has not been announced yet, this Air Jordan 31 Low is expected to join April’s Jordan releases 2017 and retail at a price of $160.
