This Air Jordan 7 “Pantone” Is Paying Homage To Michael Jordan’s Alma Mater

Color has always been quintessential in terms of representing the Carolina Athletics brand. There are plenty of complementary color pairings and well-matched palettes that can be built using the hues that make up the primary identify of the Carolina Athletics brand. Its primary palette consists of Carolina Blue (Pantone 542C) and White, while the while its secondary palette includes Flat Grey, Navy Blue, Pitch Black and Silver. Of course, Michael Jordan used to study at the University of North Carolina, which explains Jordan Brand’s frequent use of the Pantone (Carolina Blue) hue, such as over the brand new Air Jordan 7 colorway featured here.

Air Jordan 7 “Pantone”-2The University of North Carolina has been using the Pantone hue ever since the days of the university’s Dialectic and Philanthropic debating societies back in 1795. Pantone 542C had been chosen by the Dialectic society as its representative color. By the 1880s, football had gained tremendous popularity, and eventually Pantone and White were adopted as the primary color palette of the university. The secondary color palette was included to complement the primary one. Thus, whenever Jordan Brand decides to pay homage and tribute to Michael Jordan’s alma mater through an Air Jordan colorway, more than often they end up adding a fair amount of the Pantone hue over the sneaker.
