It seems that one of this year’s foremost Air Jordan releases 2019 for Black Friday is going to be a “What The” colorway of the Air Jordan 4. As of lately, sneakerheads have been annually looking forward to Thanksgiving week and this year will be no different. For Black Friday last year, Jordan Brand released three different sneakers. The Black Friday 2018 release included the Air Jordan 11 WMNS “Neutral Olive,” the Air Jordan 12 “Gym Red” and the Union x Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG. For its 30th anniversary, the Air Jordan 4 with the “What The” treatment will be the center of attention on Black Friday.
The concept behind “What The” colorways dates back to the Nike SB Dunk Low. Nike SB introduced this mash-up concept back in 2007. Nike’s “What The” colorways are known for being vibrant and vivid, borrowing, mixing and matching hues, patterns and textures, resulting in Frankenstein-like iterations. After being introduced, Nike’s “What The” concept was nowhere to be seen until 2012 when it returned on the Zoom Kobe 7 System. With the limited “What The Mercurial” from 2016, Nike even debuted the “What The” concept of football cleats and utilized its uppers to blend together 16 previous designs from the Mercurial cleats series.
The Air Jordan 4 “What The” appears to be an asymmetrical iteration. Of course, it would not be a “What The” iteration if it was not a hybrid of some iconic, original colorways of the Air Jordan 4. Thus, the Air Jordan 4 “What The” is a mash-up of the OG “Black Cement,” “Fire Red,” “Military Blue” and “White Cement” colorways. Since it is an asymmetrical iteration though, apart from the plain White base of their uppers, the color blocking and scheme of both shoes is noticeably different. This Air Jordan 4 “What The” will join the Air Jordan releases 2019 on Black Friday in November.
