This Monday, all the members of the USA Men’s Basketball National Team 2016 were in Las Vegas at the Mendenhall Center in order to practice for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. The very first official photo of this year’s Olympic basketball team was posted by Nike Basketball on their Twitter account (@nikebasketball). Along with the fact that a majority of the Team USA roster will laced up in Nike kicks during the 2016 Summer Olympics, Nike is also the officially men’s and women’s apparel provider. As for sneakerheads who have viewed the photo, many of them were likely searching for the Air Jordan 31.
Over the weekend, a photo was leaked online of what many assumed was the upcoming Air Jordan 31, which seems to be the case. Something that readers may not be aware of is that Nike has somewhat of a tradition of making sure that only sneakers from Nike or one of its subsidiaries are visible in the official Olympic basketball team photos. Even in the official photo of the 2016 Olympic basketball team, it can be seen that the kicks worn by Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson and Kyle Lowry are skillfully hidden from view.
Fortunately, among the sneakers that are visible, the Olympic iteration of the Air Jordan 31 can indeed be spotted on the feet of the only two Jordan Brand athletes that are a part of the 2016 Team USA. Both Carmelo Anthony and Jimmy Butler were laced up in Jordan Brand’s upcoming thirty-first Air Jordan model when the official 2016 Olympic basketball team photo was taken. Now, Twitter user @BenGolliver has even shared close up, zoomed-in photos that provide a more detailed look of the Air Jordan 31 “Olympic” that features woven uppers dressed up in a patriotic color scheme. Its side panels are also sporting Nike Swooshes.
Carmelo Anthony and Jimmy Butler will once again be sporting the same Air Jordan 31 during the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. However, it remains to be known whether that Air Jordan 31 “Olympic” will eventually hit the shelves or not. Perhaps, the rendition seen in the leaked photo will be the first to arrive at retailers.
