Earlier this week, the Nike sneakers release 2016 of the Kobe 11 finally took place. Kobe Bryant’s latest and supposedly final, eleventh on-court signature sneaker model recently hit the shelves in its debuting “Achilles Heel” colorway. However, it turns out that the Kobe 11 is not the last signature silhouette they have designed for and inspired by the Black Mamba because they just went ahead and introduced a brand new one. No doubt, the Kobe 11 does appear to borrow and draw quite a bit from its predecessors, in which case perhaps Jordanheads might find the new takedown model more singular and unique.
The new model that has the Black Mamba’s name attached to it has been dubbed Nike Zoom Kobe Icon. While it does appear that Nike has designed the Zoom Kobe Icon such that it does not look similar to any previous Kobe versions, but its shroud upper does make this silhouette resemble the Air Jordan XX8. The sneaker is equipped with a nearly full-length zipper that goes all the way from the ankle down to the toe. However, the tooling featured on the midsole and outsole does resemble the one that was introduced with the Nike Kobe 6. Nonetheless, Jordanheads will agree that they have never seen a sneaker like this one before.
The Nike Zoom Kobe Icon has already made its retail debut in a “Metallic Gold” colorway. The knitted textile, zip-up upper of the Zoom Kobe Icon, which is dressed up in Metallic Gold, probably even reminds sneakerheads of the Zoom Flight Glove. Black accents can also be spotted, while the midsole and outsole are both crisp White. For those who cannot spot the Kobe logo, they will have to look inside at the insole in order to spot it.
This Zoom Kobe Icon “Metallic Gold” already became available on eBay before its official Nike release 2016 took place on January 15th, while the release date of another nearly all-Black iteration is yet to be announced.
