Many sneakerheads are probably not familiar with the Coaches vs. Cancer program while others may have actually heard of it. This collaboration resulted when the American Cancer Society decided to collaborate with the National Association of Basketball Coaches. This initiative takes maximum advantage of community leadership, personal experiences and the professional brilliance of coaches throughout the country. The ultimate goal behind it is to raise awareness about cancer, while utilizing advocacy programs, awareness efforts and fundraising activities throughout the year to foster a healthy lifestyle. The Air Jordan 31 iteration featured here is only designed for the Coaches vs. Cancer program, but more specifically for the Georgetown Hoyas.
Through the Coaches vs. Cancer program, the American Cancer Society has managed to raise more than $100 million ever since it began in 1993. This program was actually started by Norm Stewart, the University of Missouri Tigers basketball team’s head coach, who survived cancer himself. Basketball fans helped launch this program by pledging one dollar for every three-point shot that the Missouri Tigers made that season. In fact, the goal of fighting cancer brought together nationwide athletes, coaches, communities and fans, who collectively played their part in making this program a reality. Now, there is even a Coaches Vs. Cancer Tournament that is held to support the program.
The Coaches vs. Cancer week of the Georgetown Hoyas is scheduled to take place later in January 2017. In commemoration of this occasion, Jordan Brand has apparently whipped up a special Air Jordan 31 colorway for the Georgetown Hoyas. The Flyweave and leather uppers of this Air Jordan 31 PE iteration are dressed up in a gradient pattern that is predominantly Pink-colored at the rear end but transforms into White towards the toe boxes. “GEORGETOWN” is spelled out underneath the translucent outsoles and a Black-colored “G” can be spotted on each tongue.
Sneakerheads will obviously not be able to get their hands on this sneaker. However, will end up getting an on-court look of it when the members of the Georgetown Hoyas lace up in this Air Jordan 31 PE later in January 2017.
