On the very first day of this month, Team USA had their final exhibition game prior to the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics against Nigeria at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. It is not surprising that Team USA ended up being victorious with a score of 110-66. DeMar DeRozan, the shooting guard of the Toronto Raptors, performed quite impressively, scoring 13 points and 5 assists. However, it was Carmelo Anthony and Jimmy Butler who dominated the game. Jimmy, who had four steals in the game, was laced up in a brand new Olympic rendition of the Air Jordan 31 that was not seen until now.
Kyrie Irving and Paul George did not participate in the game as they are recovering from minor injuries. Fortunately for Team USA, their offense was barely affected by the lack of its two members. Initially, Team USA performed a bit inactively and unenergetically, failing to intimdate the Nigerian team early on in the game. However, following the first quarter, Team USA really turned the tables and took their performance to a whole new level. By the second quarter, Team USA already had a massive lead and it seems that they are prepared heading into the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Along with Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler is the only other Jordan Brand representative in Team USA, who will perform in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. Jordan Brand had already unveiled an Air Jordan 31 “Olympic” colorway but apparently Jordan Brand has whipped up another, and both Carmelo and Jimmy will likely rock a few others during the Olympic Games. This colorway looks quite like the Olympic version that was unveiled before, but its Flyweave uppers sport a White to Blue gradient instead of the opposite, while similar Red-colored accents and detailing can also be spotted.
Both Carmelo Anthony and Jimmy Butler will most probably be laced up in this new iteration at some point during the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics. The fact that this new, alternative Air Jordan 31 “Olympic” version is already available on eBay and Kixify suggests that it will might be among 2016’s upcoming Jordan releases dates.
