Despite countless innovations, when it comes to Nike’s various cushioning systems, Air Max has always been at the forefront. Nike introduced the Air-sole unit back in 1979 as a part of the Tailwind running shoe for athletes. The very first print advertisement for the Air Max referred to it as a “Revolution.” Thirty-one years later, the revolutionary model has evolved into the Air Max 720, Nike’s latest casual/lifestyle shoe to join the line, which comes equipped with 720 degrees of Air cushioning. Inspired by the upcoming model, Jordan Brand has introduced a brand new version of their own that they have named the Jordan Proto-Max 720.
Nike Sportswear’s Dylan Raasch and Jesi Small are the ones who designed the Air Max 720. Standing 38mm tall, it is even higher than its predecessor, the Air Max 270. This means that it has far greater heel volume displacement, enabling it to offer increased spring to the wearer. Its uppers appear seem to be quite retro-futuristic, inspired by sneaker models that Nike released back in the early- and mid-2000s. Furthermore, Air unit can be seen in 720 degrees and is mostly made up of recycled manufacturing waste material. The Air Max 720 will be making its retail debut on March 26, 2019, i.e. on Air Max Day 2019.
Not only does the Jordan Proto-Max 720 draw inspiration from the Air Max 720 and look equally futuristic, it also borrows the innovative cushioning system. It is Jordan Brand’s one of two Proto shoes, the other being the recently unveiled Jordan Proto React. The uppers of Jordan Proto-Max 720 are very lightweight due to being made up of synthetic materials and they feature adjustable heel straps. In addition to the 720 Air Max units within its midsoles, it is also equipped with rugged outsoles resembling those of moon boots. Jordan Brand’s futuristic rendition of the Nike Air Max 720 will join next year’s Air Jordan releases 2019.
