2017 will mark the 14th edition of the annual Quai 54 World Streetball Championship. The Paris Police Commission cancelled 2016’s edition of the championship due to the 2016 Nice attack and further terrorist threats that were persistent last year. Despite getting officially cancelled, Quai 54 still held several different “Quai 54 Friends & Family” games on July 24th, 2016 at Hoops Factory in Paris. Some of the teams that took part in those games were originally scheduled to play in last year’s tournament. Like every year, Jordan Brand will likely be dropping multiple sneakers as a nod to the tournament, such as the Jordan Formula 23 “Quai 54” featured here.
2015’s Quai 54 releases from Jordan Brand and Nike turned out to be quite successful. Even though 2016’s Quai 54 World Streetball Championship was cancelled, Jordan Brand still paid homage to the event by whipping up a luxurious iteration of the Air Jordan 2. This Air Jordan 2 release was a Europe-exclusive with uppers predominantly dressed up in Off-White, while Golden-colored Quai 54 branding could be spotted throughout. It was also equipped with Gold heel cups and lace eyelets, and also featured premium leather and suede detailing here and there. Since it arrived exclusively at the Paris-based NikeLab P75 store, it also featured “P75” branding too.
It is unlikely that the 2017 Quai 54 World Streetball Championship will get cancelled like it was last year. Regardless, Jordan Brand is already set to add some Quai 54 exclusives to upcoming Jordan releases 2017. It is being reported that the 2017 Quai 54 collection will include an Air Jordan 1 High and an Air Jordan 31 Low colorway, but neither of them have been unveiled yet. However, sneakerheads can get a look at this Jordan Formula 23 iteration, which is also a part of the collection. It is sporting predominantly sleek Black-colored uppers with Blue-, Red- and White-colored detailing visible throughout as a tribute to the French flag.
Back in 2016, the Air Jordan and the rest of last year’s Quai 54 Europe-exclusives from Jordan Brand and Nike made their retail debut of July 22nd. The 2017 Quai 54 collection, which includes the Jordan Formula 23 colorway featured here, will be joining July’s Air Jordan releases 2017.
