Throughout the year, numerous annual premier track and field meets take place all across the United States and the Prefontaine Classic happens to be one of them, which takes place in Eugene, Oregon. The meet takes place on the University of Oregon’s campus at Hayward Field every year and world-class track and field athletes tend to be among those who participate. Ever since becoming a part of the IAAF Diamond League, it is now also referred to as the 2018 Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meet as well. As several Jordan Brand athletes participated in this year’s event, a special Zoom Tenacity 88 colorway was whipped up for them.
The 2018 Prefontaine Classic was a two-day event, from May 25th to May 26th. A total of 12,667 people were in attendance at Hayward Field for the second and final day of the event. Erik Kynard, Matt Centrowitz and Renaud Levellenie were the three Jordan Brand athletes who rocked the Jordan Zoom Tenacity 88 featured here during this year’s Prefontaine Classic. They participated in the high-jump, 1,500-metre run and the pole vault events respectively. This might be the final Prefontaine Classic that will be held at the Hayward Field stadium since it is scheduled to be demolished later this year and a completely redesigned facility will take its place.
As you may or may not know, Jordan Brand designed the Zoom Tenacity 88 running shoe by drawing inspiration from the Air Jordan 3. This particular split-colored iteration of the shoe may even remind you Nike’s Zoom Jasari Track Spikes from 1996, which sported a similar color-blocking. In this case, the outer sides of the Zoom Tenacity 88 appear to be covered in Infrared and the inner sides appear to be dressed up in Volt. Due to being inspired by the Air Jordan 3, tonal elephant print overlays also make an appearance. Dubbed “Pre Classic,” this Jordan Zoom Tenacity 88 colorway made its retail debut on May 25th, 2018.
