Kawhi Leonard is undoubtedly a Jordan Brand athlete, for now at least, yet he does not have his own signature sneaker line. It is uncertain why this is so, but it does not mean that he has not received special kicks from Jordan Brand in the past. In fact, Kawhi Leonard has laced up in some of the most fancies and flashiest Air Jordan iterations over the recent years. Back in October 2014, he received an Air Jordan 6 “The Claw” PE. Unfortunately, Kawhi Leonard’s contract with Jordan Brand will soon expire and when that happens, he will reportedly part ways from the brand and join their rival.
Kawhi was named the Finals MVP when the 2013–14 NBA season concluded. Before the Air Jordan 20 “Playoff” had made its retail debut on May 9th, 2015, Kawhi Leonard had already laced up in a pair the month before. Back in August 2016, he attended a number of community outreach events and a photo clicked at one of those events revealed him laced up in a completely Metallic Gold PE iteration of the Air Jordan 12. Jordan Brand’s “Art Of A Champion” Collection from earlier this year also included an Air Jordan 1 Retro High colorway inspired by his progress towards becoming an NBA Finals MVP.
Where Is Kawhi Leonard Headed?
Back in June, it was being reported that Kawhi Leonard had requested to be traded from the San Antonio Spurs and this month, he got traded to the Toronto Raptors. Later in 2018, the endorsement deal that he had signed with Jordan Brand will conclude. They offered him a 4-year extension worth $22 million dollars prior to the beginning of the 2017–18 NBA season, but he apparently turned it down. So, once his contract expires, he will be a “sneaker free agent.” Considering Drake’s association with the Raptors and the rumors that he might sign a deal with adidas, Kawhi Leonard may end up following in his footsteps.
