Last year, Jordan Brand released “Baseball Glove” iterations of the Air Jordan 9 Retro and even transformed the sneaker model into baseball cleats. A few months later, then Air Jordan 9 underwent another radical and unexpected transformation. It was during November 2017 that Jordan Brand introduced the Air Jordan 9 Boot NRG for the winter season that was on its way at the time. The Air Jordan 9 Boot NRG eventually made its retail debut during the Holiday Season on December 6th, 2017 at a price of $225. Although winter is nearing but is not here yet, the NRG Boot is returning to join upcoming Air Jordan releases 2018.
Even though the Boot NRG is essentially a bulked up variation of the Air Jordan 9, it also draws inspiration from Nike’s Special Field Boots. While the Air Jordan 9 retains most of its original design in this case, it is obvious that it has been modified to be able to withstand cold winter weather and rugged conditions. Its uppers are made up of leather and suede with a water-resistant coating on top. Furthermore, it is equipped with metal eyelets and its tongues are gusseted. Its bulkier soles also feature heavy treads beneath them for firm and stable traction over uneven terrain.
Last year, Jordan Brand released two different colorways of the Air Jordan 9 Boot NRG, a “Black/Light Gum” and a “Black/Olive.” Jordan Brand’s Frank Cooker had even shared a photo of a colorful Air Jordan 9 Boot NRG iteration that never really hit the shelves. The upcoming colorways are far more tonal and sport appropriate color schemes to join all the Fall-themed Air Jordan releases 2018. One is entirely covered in Black and the other in Wheat, while Baroque Brown and Concord can be spotted over their “Jumpman” branding, respectively. These Air Jordan 9 Boot colorways will hit the shelves on October 13th, 2018, each retailing for $225.
