Between the mid and late 1990s, the feud between America’s East Coast and West Coast hip hop scenes was on the rise, and at the forefront of this rivalry were Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur. The two rappers from the East and West Coast of the United States had started out as close friends and eventually became mortal enemies of each other. Coincidentally, both Biggie and Tupac were fatally shot in drive-by shootings. 20+ years after both their deaths, Nike has drawn inspiration from the East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry for this SB “Biggie vs. Tupac” Pack, which includes two different models inspired by the two rappers.
It is not entirely certain how and when Biggie and Tupac first met, but it is a fact that they were close friends initially. Before things turned sour between the two in 1994, both of them would often do freestyle rapping together on stage. Biggie even wanted Tupac to replace Puff Daddy as his manager, but Tupac declined the offer. Biggie and Tupac’s friendship came to an end after the latter was lead to believe that Biggie was responsible for him getting mugged and shot back in November 1994. That is how the notorious feud began and both seized every opportunity to diss each other from then on.
It was back in mid-March when rumors began circulating about the upcoming Nike SB “Biggie vs. Tupac” Pack. Based on latest information, the pack includes an Air Force 1 Low “2Pac” and an SB Dunk Low “Notorious B.I.G.” Although each sneaker is inspired by one of the two rappers, they both look somewhat similar. Both their uppers are made up of denim, “the Notorious B.I.G.” iteration appearing lighter while the “Tupac Shakur” iteration seems to be darker. However, both are equipped with identical all-White midsoles and Gum Rubber outsoles. They will reportedly also have paisley and plaid inner lining.
