Kevin Durant’s decision to switch from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Golden State Warriors received a lot of criticism. Yet, for the second-consecutive season, Kevin Durant once again won the NBA Championship and received the Finals MVP award. It is not a coincidence that Nike has just officially unveiled the KD 11, Kevin Durant’s eleventh signature sneaker. The Nike KD 10 debuted last year on May 26th, 2017 in a colorway that was dubbed “Anniversary.” This year marks the eleventh anniversary of Kevin Durant’s signature line, so it makes further sense that the Nike KD 11 has been unveiled.
According to Kevin Durant himself, he prefers the snugness of his shoes to be somewhere between a lightweight running shoe and a sock, and apparently, he ties his laces loosely. This was the idea that Nike went with when Leo Chang was designing the KD 11, but the tricky part was the fact that it is a basketball sneaker. He was aware of Kevin’s preferences, but he had to find the right, suitable technologies. This is why both the Nike React and the Nike Zoom were incorporated into the KD11’s rubber cup soles to perfectly balance out the bounciness and the lightweight fit of the sneaker.
Unlike other basketball sneakers, the soles of the KD 11 have a taller foam element. The KD 11 also happens to be the third consecutive model from Kevin Durant’s line to feature Flyknit uppers. The collars designed for the sneaker were inspired by those of the Nike Air Sock Racer. Overall, lacing up in the KD 11 feels like wearing a Flyknit Trainer with Nike Epic React cushioning. The Nike KD 11 will be making its retail debut on June 18th in a Black and White colorway dubbed “Still KD.” Another Blue colorway dubbed “Paranoid” will arrive at retailers somewhere in July 2018.
