After retiring from the sport of basketball, it seems that Kobe Bryant has become a full-time entrepreneur. On the Forbes 2016 list of the “40 Richest Entrepreneurs Under 40,” Kobe Bryant has been ranked at 33. With a net worth of $350, Kobe managed to surpass both Floyd Mayweather and Jessica Alba, both of whom are worth approximately $360 million. Kobe fell right under Apoorva Mehta, founder of Instacart, and Chris Wanstrath, co-founder of GitHub, both of whom have a net worth of $360. While Kobe is as busy as ever, Nike is also busy carrying forward his signature line with this latest Kobe A.D. colorway.
As sneakerheads likely recall, Kobe Bryant retired from the NBA last year in 2016 at the age of 38. Kobe was the third all-time leading scorer, with just Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone ahead of him. However, Kobe Bryant’s earnings throughout his career were unparalleled. During the twenty years of his professional basketball career, combining both endorsements and salary, Kobe earned approximately $680. It is the most that any NBA team athlete has earned during their playing career. Merely a week had passed after the 1996 NBA draft when the Los Angeles Lakers ended up with Kobe in a trade with the Charlotte Hornets, a definite loss for the Hornets.
Many basketball fans are probably missing watching Kobe Bryant on the court dressed in gold and purple, but they can still lace up in his signature sneakers. Of course, the Kobe A.D. is the latest instalment in his signature line that was introduced after the Black Mamba retired from the NBA. This latest colorway of the model is nicknamed “Midnight Navy” after the hue that covers most of its engineered mesh uppers. Secondary hues that appear over the uppers to to accentuate and complement them include the Pure Platinum and White visible over the branding. While this iteration is equipped with all-White soles, the heels are dressed up in the same dark hue as the uppers.
2017 has officially begun and this sneaker could actually end up being Nike’s first Kobe release of this year. It is being reported that the retail debut of the Kobe A.D. “Midnight Navy” will take place on February 23rd, but Nike has not announced how much sneakerheads will have to spend in order to cop a pair.
