Last year, it was Jordan Brand that released a “Chinese New Year” Pack commemorating the beginning of the Year of the Rooster. The pack consisted of special colorways of the Air Jordan 6 and the Air Jordan 32 Low. Both models featured nearly all–Black uppers with firework and traditional floral patterns embroidered onto them. While there was no collection from Nike, an Air Foamposite One “Chinese New Year” colorway was released back in February 2018. While its color scheme was different, it also featured similar firework graphics over its Foam shell uppers. For the 2019 “Chinese New Year” Pack, Nike has actually teamed up with both Converse and Jordan Brand.
Here’s The Lineup Of Nike’s “Chinese New Year” Collection 2019
Primarily, the colorways from Nike’s collection celebrating the Year of the Pig are inspired by Chinese patchwork or Bai Jia Yi, which is also known as Hundred–Families robe. However, these colorways also draw inspiration from all twelve animal signs that are a part of the Chinese zodiac cycle. The Nike lineup from this collection includes classic models like the Air Max 90 and the Air Max 98 as well as modern day models like the Air Max 270 and the Kyrie 5. Also a part of the collection is Converse’s Chuck 70, and Jordan Brand’s Air Jordan 12 and Air Jordan 33.
The Color Scheme & Design Of The Sneakers From This Collection
All seven models from this collection are dressed up in shades of Gold, Red and Yellow, which have been prominent hues throughout the history of China, especially the Chinese nobility. All of the models also feature the Bai Jia Yi-inspired patterns and mosaic patterns consisting of the twelve Chinese zodiac animal signs. The highlight of the collection is undoubtedly the Air Max 98. For its tongues, Nike borrowed the patent leather from the heels of the Air Max 1 “Year of the Ox” from 2009. The faux–snakeskin material originally featured on the Air Force 1 “Year of the Snake” from 2013 also appears on this Air Max 98 iteration.
