In celebration of its 30th anniversary, next month’s Air Jordan releases 2019 will mark the return of the original Air Jordan 4 “Bred.” Apart from a two-year, post-second retirement stint with the Washington Wizards, Michael Jordan played as a member of the Chicago Bulls for a majority of his NBA career. Drawing inspiration from the color scheme of the Chicago Bulls, Jordan Brand designed the “Bred” (Black and Red) colorway for the Air Jordan 1, which has also become known as the “Banned” colorway. Consequently, several of the Air Jordan models that Jordan Brand introduced after 1985, including the Air Jordan 4, were released in a “Bred” colorway.
The Air Jordan 4 “Bred” debuted back in 1989, but before it hit the shelves, Michael Jordan was laced up in it when he scored “The Shot.” Along with being one of Michael Jordan’s finest clutch moments, the series-winning basket cemented the Air Jordan 4 in sneaker history. Michael Jordan scored the basket during Game 5 First Round of the 1989 Eastern Conference First Round with just three seconds remaining on the clock. As a result the Chicago a Bulls secured a 101-100 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. At the time, the Air Jordan 4 OG “Bred” was actually referred to as the “Black Cement.”
The “Black Cement” nickname is a reference to the OG “Black Cement” colorway of the Air Jordan 3 because of the resemblance between the two. While the Air Jordan 4 “Bred” does not feature the cement print, Cement Grey happens to be a part of its color scheme. As you can see, its nubuck uppers are almost entirely dressed up in Black. Its midsoles are plain Summit White-colored, while Fire Red- and Cement Grey-colored accents can be seen throughout. Its heels also feature the OG “Nike Air” branding. The Air Jordan 4 “Bred” will make its comeback among the Air Jordan releases 2019 next month.
