One of the upcoming Air Jordan releases 2018 is going to be a part of the recently unveiled Nike x Doernbecher Freestyle 2018 Collection. Jordan Brand and Nike have a long-standing annual tradition of collaborating with the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital since back in 2007. Every year, some of the young patients at the hospital are selected to design specific Air Jordan and Nike sneaker models to be a part of the annual Doernbecher Collection. Nike recently unveiled the Doernbecher Freestyle 2018 Collection, along with the names and photos of the children involved. The collection contains an Air Jordan and several Nike sneaker models.
Whenever an Air Jordan colorway is nicknamed Obsidian, it is usually a ominous-looking sneaker that is largely dressed up in jet black or a similar dark hue that falls under obsidian. However, obsidian is not merely a color, it is also a type of igneous rock from which the hue gets its name. Obsidian is typically referred to as an extrusive rock since it is formed above the surface of the earth when the edges of flowing lava solidify due to cold air or water. The Air Jordan 15 colorway featured here is an original one and has “Obsidian” as its nickname since the hue appears over it. By the time 2016 was nearing its end, Jordan Brand unveiled their “Take Flight” Pack. Way before that though, photos of the Air Jordan 8 colorway drawing inspiration from the original MA-1 flight bomber jacket had already surfaced online. The pack also includes an Air Jordan 5 colorway that is inspired by the P-51 flight bomber jacket and has nubuck uppers dressed up in a combination of Sequoia Green with Vachetta Tan leather tongues. Finally, they the sneaker from this pack is an Air Jordan 15 iteration. Some sneakerheads are probably thinking that this iteration was whipped up specifically for this pack, but it is actually an OG colorway. Back in 2008, plenty of sneakerheads were eagerly attempting to get their hands on as many of the Countdown Packs from Jordan Brand as they possibly could. Popular sneakers from the many Countdown Packs that Jordan Brand has dropped include Air Jordan 3 “Black/Cement,” Air Jordan 11 “Bred,” Air Jordan 12 “Taxi” and the Air Jordan 15 colorway from 2008’s Countdown Pack. Back in 2014, all these sneakers and the rest from Jordan Brand’s eleven Countdown Packs had surfaced on eBay. After being auctioned amongst those sneakers, the Air Jordan 15 recently received the “Kubo” treatment, and in 2017, it is set to make a full-fledged comeback. The most recent release of the Air Jordan 15 were the two limited colorways that Jordan Brand had designed to mark the release of the 2016 3D stop-motion film, Kubo and the Two Strings. Hence, the two iterations were not among 2016’s general Jordan releases, rather a total of 220 pairs were auctioned off on eBay. All proceeds from those auctions had gone to the non-profit organization, Just Keep Livin Foundation. Above all, the two renditions were designed by Tinker Hatfield. Sneakerheads already know that the Air Jordan 15 “Stealth” returns in 2017 and just recently, new photos of next year’s version popped up online. Jordan Brand has barely disclosed anything about potential Air Jordan releases 2017, which is understandable considering that the present year is not even halfway through. Hence, there are many sneakers that the Jumpman could potentially bring back. Since February 2016 already passed and February 7, 2017 will mark the 30th anniversary of the 1987 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, so one particular sneaker that should definitely return is the Air Jordan 2 “Made In Italy.” It cannot really be confirmed whether this sneaker will actually make its comeback, but this much is certain that the Air Jordan 15 is scheduled to make a comeback next year.
