Despite a lack of collaborative Air Jordan releases 2019, Hiroshi Fujiwara was recently spotted wearing an unreleased Air Jordan 3 sample. The pair you see Hiroshi Fujiwara rocking is actually a Fragment Design x Air Jordan 3 sample that never made its way to retailers. Hiroshi was spotted laced up in the pair at Nike’s The Hong Kong Department retail location. He was there to speak during a “Nike On Air” panel and even showcased some his previous fragment design x Nike creations. Among them was the fragment design x Air Jordan 1 that made its retail debut on December 27th, 2014 at a price of $165.
This year, Nike kicked off its Air Max Day 2019 celebrations by announcing the Nike ON AIR: “The Hong Kong Department” series of lecture style and workshop events. This series of events, which revolve around Nike Air, creativity, design and learning, commenced on March 30th and will conclude on April 14th, 2019. Graphics and Print & Industrial Design are among the subjects that will be taught during foundational classes that are a part of the lecture-style learning events. Nike has collaborated with a number of global and local artists to host the curriculum, and among those artists, Hiroshi Fujiwara is at the forefront.
Hiroshi Fujiwara has a longstanding history of collaborating with Nike. Last year, two different Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG samples were also unveiled, which have not hit the shelves so far. According to Hiroshi himself, he designed the fragment design x Air Jordan 3 pair you see here a few years ago. He used an OG “Fire Red” pair but covered the Fire Red-colored areas with a shade of Azure. He also replaced the elephant print overlays with smooth Black-colored leather. The rear heel quarter panels also have the fragment design logo debossed into them, while a tooling code can be spotted over the midsole panel.
Hiroshi Fujiwara has revealed that this fragment design x Air Jordan 3 is merely a sample and not an official release. Hence, it is unlikely that it may end up being among this year’s upcoming Air Jordan releases 2019.
