This Veterans Day, President Barack Obama celebrated the holiday at Arlington National Cemetery at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier taking part in a wreath-laying ceremony. A Veterans Day ceremony was also held at the National World War II Memorial where a lot of World War II veterans were present. Visitors also paid their respects to the soldiers who died during the Vietnam War, looking at the names of the casualties on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. The origin of Veterans Day can be traced back to November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the culmination of the First World War, when this holiday was first observed as “Armistice Day.” Back in 1926, a resolution had been passed by Congress for Veterans Day to be observed annual and from November 11th, 1938 onwards, it became a national holiday. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day celebrates and pays homage to both deceased and living American veterans, thanking them for their services to the country both during peacetime and war. Even Jordan Brand is paying tribute to American veterans with a “Veterans Day” colorway of the Air Jordan 16.
