Sneakerheads may or may not know, but the Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning” is one of the best Air Jordan colorways to have been worn in an NBA All-Star Game. Along with the athleticism and all the famous players performing at the same time, one of the great things about NBA’s annual All-Star Weekend is the kicks that are spotted on the court. It was Michael Jordan who rocked the Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning” during the 2002 NBA All-Star Game and Jordan Brand released the sneaker in the summer of that year. Now, a special, collaborative variation of the Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning” will arrive next year.
Some of the highlights of the 2002 NBA All-Star Game included the self pass that Tracy McGrady made off a backboard dunk. By the end of the game, Kobe Bryant had scored 31 points and 5 assists, which was quite an impressive performance. However, sneaker enthusiasts would have likely had their eyes often glued onto the Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning” that Michael Jordan was wearing. After all, the colorway was rather eye catching, with its striking Black and White color scheme, combined bright Lightning Yellow-colored detailing and the addition of some Chrome too. Of course, the variation set to join next year’s Jordan releases 2018 looks different.
Jordan Brand designed this latest version of the Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning” in collaboration with SoleFly and it is being referred to as an “Alternate” variation of the original. This time, the colorway really lives up to its nickname because the Lightning Yellow hue actually covers a majority of its leather uppers. The rest of the sneaker is mostly covered in Black, with Metallic Silver also making an appearance over the Chrome plate and the lace eyelets. Some of the Black-overlays even appear to be featuring a reptilian texture, making this sneaker look all the more luxurious.
The Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning” debuted 15 years ago and while it is not exactly making a comeback, its “Alternate” version is equally good. Reportedly, this SoleFly x Air Jordan 17 Low “Lightning” will be joining February’s Jordan releases 2018 next year, but its retail price has not been revealed yet.
