Considering that Michael Jordan is undoubtedly one of the most distinguished and illustrious basketball athletes of all-time, he certainly deserves all of the special privileges and treatment that he receives. Perhaps the biggest privilege of them all is that he has a brand and a numbered series of basketball sneakers named after him, and he likely even gets to call the shots to quite an extent. No wonder he was able to get an collection of Charlotte Hornets-themed Air Jordan sneakers designed just to prove his point that was serious about his new team’s colors. Apparently one of them might arrive at retailers in 2017.
For those who still do not know, Michael Jordan is the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets. Back in 2014, posted a photo on his team’s Twitter account featuring a series of Air Jordan kicks, literally lined up beside and dressed up in the team’s newly introduced color scheme at that time. However, it was a year later in December 2015, when Michael Jordan’s brother-in-law Carlos Prieto (@chinojp3) of SoleFly, shared close-up and clearer photos of the sneakers from the Air Jordan “Hornets” Collection. The collection included the Air Jordan models 2 to 11 and surprisingly, Jordan Brand might drop the Air Jordan 3 “Hornets” next year.
Zooming into one of the photos that Carlos Prieto had posted on Instagram last year provides a better look at the Charlotte Hornets-themed Air Jordan 3. Of course, since this Air Jordan 3 rendition is inspired by the Charlotte Hornets like the others, its clean white uppers are dressed up in a combination of purple and teal accents. Of course, since it is an Air Jordan 3, it would obviously not be complete without the black and grey cement/elephant print overlay, which is also present.
At least in the photos shared by Carlos Prieto, the sneakers from the Air Jordan “Hornets” collection can be seen inside transparent pods on a wall within the Time Warner Arena. However, if there is any truth behind recent rumors, the Air Jordan 3 “Hornets” will actually end up hitting the shelves in Spring 2017 jordan releases.
