Back when Jordan Brand first dropped the Air Jordan 4 “Mars Blackmon,” its actual nickname was “Fire Red Mars.” It makes sense because not only do the heels of this sneaker feature an embossed photo of Mars Blackmon, they are also dressed up in a combination of Black, Varsity Red and White. For those who have no clue who Mars Blackmon is, he was a character that Spike Lee played in his 1986 comedy-drama film, She’s Gotta Have It. Following the original release of this sneaker, an alternate “Motorsports” version was also created, which will apparently be among 2017’s Air Jordan releases.
Spike Lee had portrayed his Mars Backmon character in several Air Jordan commercials, in the honor of which Jordan Brand had designed the Air Jordan 4 “Mars.” However, it is the alternate version of that sneaker that is perhaps the rarest iteration of the Air Jordan 4. The Air Jordan 4 “Mars” had hit the shelves back in 2006, and the exclusive “Motorsports” rendition was created to celebrate the 4th Anniversary of Michael Jordan’s Motorsports Team. Even on eBay, finding a pair of the Air Jordan 4 “Motorsports” it rare and not too long ago, a seller had listed a pair at at $30,000.
Dino Hatfield, one of the leading sources of information for upcoming Air Jordan releases, was the one who tweeted about the possible return of the Air Jordan 4 “Motorsports” on his Twitter account (@baltsneakershow). However, this time it will receive a general release. Much like the “Mars” colorway, it also features Blackmon’s embossed photo on the heels, while its color blocking also predominantly consist of White. However, it instead sports Royal Blue accents.
No doubt, nothing has been confirmed yet and for now, Jordanheads can only take Dino Hatfield’s word for it. However, they will agree that it would be spectacular if the Air Jordan 4 “Motorsports” indeed turns out to be one of the Air Jordan releases 2017 since sneakerheads were never able to get their hands on it before.
