The Jordan 8 “Championship” Pack Is A Nod To The 1993 NBA Finals

Over these past couple of weeks, Jordanheads have been getting better and more detailed looks at the two Air Jordan 8 colorways from this year’s “Championship” Pack. Since the previous “Championship” Air Jordan releases have all been Champagne- and Cigar-themed, it was assumed that the 2016 iterations of the Air Jordan 8 from the pack would be drawing from the same source of inspiration. As it turned out, the nicknames of these two Air Jordan 8 renditions are actually “Championship Trophy” and “Confetti.” So, while they may not be inspired by Michael Jordan’s favorite post-championship victory treats, they still reflect the whole Championship-theme of the pack.

It was 23 years ago when Michael Jordan was leading the Bulls with 24 points in Game 6 of the 1993 Finals and twelve minutes later, the Bulls were the champions as a result of defeating Suns with a score of 99-98. It was the third consecutive time that the Chicago Bulls had won the championship and basketball enthusiasts often wonder how they did it.

The nearly all-White Air Jordan 8 from the pack is inspired by the Larry O’Brien trophy, which should explain the fingerprints that can be spotted over the sneaker’s Gold detailing. Holographic/iridescent detailing is also wrapped around the ankles of this sneaker’s White leather uppers. In terms of theme, the nearly all-Black sneaker is relatively simpler since it draws inspiration from the confetti that drops down from the rafters during an NBA championship victory. Apparently, there will be friends and family versions of these two sneakers as well, with the phrases “AGAIN AND AGAIN” and “WORLD CHAMPIONS” featured on the inside of the straps.

Furthermore, Jordanheads will have to pay $250 for each once these sneakers arrive at retailers on June 25th.
