Many of the sneakerheads reading this post are probably not aware of the Allen Iverson’s infamous yet memorable “practice” press conference from fourteen years ago. Allen Iverson has achieved tremendous accomplishments on the basketball court, but the speech that ended up making during a press conference on May 7th, 2002 is regarded as one of the most unforgettable sports rants. It has become one of the most discussed and widely known moments of his illustrious career. Drawing inspiration from that very moment, Reebok decided to whip up a brand new special colorway of one of his most renowned signature sneakers, the Question Mid.
Around the time of the press conference, rumors had been circulating the Philadelphia 76ers would trade him off, but it turned out that he would remain in Philadelphia as the team’s guard. During the 2001-2002 season, Allen had missed practice quite a few times as well and prior to the press conference, his friend had also passed away. On May 7th, 2002 someone from the media questioned Allen why had been absent from practice so often during the season and he apparently vented out his frustration in a trainwreck of a speech in which he used the word “practice” a total of 22 times.
Reebok had already produced the Question for Allen Iverson even before he had signed the contract with the brand. In the model’s mid-top form, this brand new colorway has been nicknamed “Practice” after that infamous speech that he had given and it borrows its hues from the baseball cap he had worn during the press conference. The sneaker’s full-grain leather uppers are dressed up in a combination of black and grey, while red accents are featured throughout, including the baseball stitching that can be spotted on the midfoot panels. The heel also sport heather grey cotton textile and the sneaker is also equipped with gum outsoles, while the graphic insoles have Allen’s various “practice” quotes from the press conference transcribed on them.
Quoting Allen Iverson himself, “We talkin’ about practice!” However, sneakerheads are probably talkin’ about when they will be able to cop a pair of this reebok sneakers and they will have to wait a few more days for the Question Mid “Practice” to hit the shelves at Reebok.com and Reebok Classic retailers on May 13th.
