During the 2014–15 NBA season, Kevin Durant was not spotted laced up in the Nike KD 7 considering the foot injury he was diagnosed with back in mid-October last year. Since he needs to undergo surgery for his injured right foot, he will not be able to participate in the rest of the season. Despite Kevin Durant’s absence in 2014–15 season, his latest signature silhouette is still going strong and will be arriving at retailers in this year’s “EYBL” colorway.
Although basketball enthusiasts and sneakerheads should already know this, EYBL is an acronym for Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League. Sneaker collectors may also not know this but Sonny Vaccaro is the reason that modern basketball shoes industry exists today and not so long ago, he starred in ESPN’s documentary film, 30 for 30. He is also partially responsible for Michael Jordan signing up with Nike. He also indirectly receives credit for the fact that for the past couple of years, Nike has been providing exclusive sneaker iterations featuring EYBL branding to all of the young players who are a part of their Elite Youth Basketball League.
The EYBL players of 2015 are fortunate enough to be receiving the “EYBL” rendition of the Nike KD 7 Elite. Unlike EYBL versions from the past, this year’s sneaker is not as bright-colored. Nonetheless, it looks quite clean with a shiny upper that is dressed up in a metallic copper hue with white laces, lining, midsole, Nike Swoosh over the toe box and tongue. Apart from having icy outsoles, this sneaker also stays true to the program since the EYBL logo that is featured on the tongue is present within the KD emblem.
Although some eBay sellers and certain retailers already have the Nike KD 7 “EYBL” up on sale, this annual sneaker has not yet made its official retail debut. Rather, the pair will be available on Nike.com and at select retailers on May 8th, 2015.
