It should not really come as a surprise that the Nike Air Tech Challenge 2 will once again hit the shelves, especially considering that the 2016 Australian Open is now underway. What should feel more surprising is the colorway of the Air Tech Challenge 2 that has already made its come back. In other words, the Nike sneakers release 2016 of the Air Tech Challenge 2 “Hot Lava” has already taken place. The thing that is surprising about its release is that this is not the first time that the sneaker has hit the shelves in recent times.
No doubt, the Nike Air Tech Challenge II “Hot Lava” is one of the finest retro colorways of Andre Agassi’s signature tennis shoe model. The fact that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the Air Tech Challenge II makes it obvious why Nike may have decided to drop this rendition of the silhouette once again. However, it must be kept in mind and not forgotten that the Air Tech Challenge 2 “Hot Lava” already received the retro treatment back in 2014. Regardless, that does not mean that Jordanheads cannot celebrate 25 years of the model by copping a pair, especially if they do not have it in their collection.
In the case of this “Hot Lava” rendition, this lightweight, mid-top tennis shoe features a leather upper that is dressed up nearly in all-White. However, this colorway gets its nickname from the Hot Lava hue that joins the contrasting Black and Grey accents that can be spotted across the sides. The heel, outsole, side panels and the tongue of this shoe also sport Nike branding.
Even in 2014, the Air Tech Challenge II “Hot Lava” had arrived retailers in January, and once again, its Jordan release 2016 has also taken place on January 25th. However, it is unsure if the tennis shoe will once again retail at $120 as it had two years ago in 2014.
