One of the reasons Michael Jordan was so successful in the NBA and life after retirement is because of competitive he can be. Despite his many successes though, he has also made a few fateful missteps too, such as pursuing a professional baseball career and building the Jordan Motorsports superbike motorcycle racing team. Although the latter venture was a failure, it did help inspire the design of the Air Jordan 4 “Motorsport,” which finally hit the shelves last year. After a long time, one of Jordan Brand’s upcoming Air Jordan releases 2018 draws inspiration from the Jordan Motorsports team. It has been aptly dubbed the Air Jordan 1 Moto.
Considering Michael Jordan’s lifelong love of motorsports and the fact that several Air Jordan models have been inspired automobiles, the Jordan Motorsports team should have taken hold after it was founded in 2004. Michael Jordan actually had to give up his passion of riding motorcycles when he was drafted by the Chicago Bulls. By 2013 though, the team’s operations were suspended with an announcement that it would transition to international competition by early 2014, but that never really ended up happening. Even though Michael Jordan was actively involved, his motorsports team did not recover because it lost most of its key sponsors, including the National Guard.
As you may have already figured out, the design of the Air Jordan 1 Moto variation featured here is inspired by motorcycle boots, which explains the forefoot and midfoot straps it is equipped with. The ribbed leather paneling over the collars and tongues has also been borrowed from biker jackets. It is a nearly all-Black iteration with Gym Red appearing over the heels tabs and the rear portions of the forefoot straps. Michael Jordan’s “23” is also embossed around each heel and on the tongues. This Air Jordan 1 Moto is already available in Asia. It will soon also join upcoming Air Jordan releases 2018 in the U.S.
