It did not take long for one of the latest adidas Originals model, the NMD, to gain tremendous popularity in the world of sneakers. It was back in December when this silhouette was introduced and ever since then, all of its general releases have literally been flying off the retail shelves. As is the case with Yeezy Boost releases, sneakerheads have eagerly been lining up to cop a pair of the latest NMD colorway and resellers have been reselling pairs at outrageously high prices. Almost a year after the debut of the NMD R1 in December 2015, adidas Originals has apparently upgraded it in the form of the R2.
For the NMD, adidas was inspired by classic models from its own archives, such as the Boston Super, Micro Pacer and Rising Star. However, the footwear market of today values advanced, modern day technology and the NMD is definitely up to the mark in that regard. The NMD is a comfortable and equipped with modern technology, so it makes sense that it would appeal far more to the younger generation of sneakerheads. Many have been arguing that the NMD could potentially be the best adidas model of all time. Even if not, the NMD has undoubtedly proven to be a game-changing model, featuring the brand’s most outstanding technologies.
Earlier in 2016, some leaked photos of the adidas Originals NMD R2 had popped up online and now the brand has officially confirmed that the R2 is indeed in the works. Judging from official photos that adidas has published, the silhouette has been revamped and is a slight variation of its predecessor. Foremost, the EVA plugs are absent, instead debossed striped detailing can be spotted on its Boost midsoles, which are paired with Primeknit uppers. It seems that two colorways of the R2 version will eventually be available, both covered in a motif that has been dubbed “shadow noise.” The heels also feature branded tabs and the heel-patches are made up of waxed-suede.
Earlier, a release date had not yet been revealed, but that does not seem to be the case anymore. Although the retail price of the NMD R2 still remains unknown, adidas has provided confirmation that this new NMD version will hit the shelves on December 3rd.
