Until recently, the acronym “AWOK” would mean nothing to anyone in the sneaker community. Standing for “Anna Wintour OK,” it is an acronym that every editor of Vogue magazine is familiar with, a sign of approval for their print pages from the magazine’s longtime editor in chief. Sneakerheads became familiar with this acronym when it became the nickname for the Jordan Brand and Vogue collaboration, which revolves around Anna Wintour. For those who do not know, this collaboration includes two Air Jordan 1 High Zip and two Air Jordan 3 SE colorways. The former already hit the shelves, while the latter will join next month’s Air Jordan releases 2018.
The Air Jordan 1 High Zip “AWOK”
Anna Wintour herself gave feedback and approval for all of these “AWOK” releases, including the Air Jordan 1 High Zip, which made its retail debut last month on July 23rd at a price of $220. The tonal Sail and University Red colorways of the Air Jordan 1 High Zip were based upon Vogue’s iconic color palette. Identical but notable details on both of these iterations included the “Nike Air” branding on their asymmetrical tongue tabs and the handwritten “AWOK” underneath their translucent outsoles. Each of their zippers also had a University Red-colored “EDITED BY VOGUE” tab attached to them and both sneakers came in suede dust bags.
The Air Jordan 3 SE “AWOK” Colorways
For the Black and Red Air Jordan 3 SE “AWOK” colorways, inspiration was drawn from the dark, glossy sunglasses and extravagant tweed jackets that Anna Wintour tends to wear. Hence, their uppers are made up of tweed, with acetate heel tabs, soft leather tongues and satin inner lining. Their heel tabs also have the handwritten “AWOK” embossed onto them and both sneakers also come with a square “EDITED BY VOGUE” hang tag. It is worth mentioning that like the Air Jordan 1 High Zip, these two Air Jordan 3 SE “AWOK” colorways are women-exclusives, both joining next month’s Air Jordan releases 2018 from September 7th and onwards.
