If any sneakerhead owns an Air Jordan pair that was purchased back in the 1990s, it is likely that it was created by Tinker Hatfield. The Air Jordan 8 was Jordan Brand’s first signature model that Tinker designed using a computer. Apparently, Tinker had grown tired of drawing sketches by hand. In order to breathe digital life into his thoughts, Tinker consulted with and sought the assistance of Mark Smith, Nike’s Vice President for Design. Considering that Mark Smith has this indirect connection with Jordan Brand, it would not be surprising if he received an exclusive Air Jordan sneaker like the one featured here.
This past weekend, the inauguration of the Best of Brooklyn Beer and Food Festival took place at Industrial City, Sunset Park in Brooklyn. The festival included activities, beers, food and music, all under one roof. Some of the most popular and well-known brewers of Brooklyn also offered unlimited beer tastings. Even food tastings from some of Brooklyn’s favorite local restaurants were also on sale during the event. The price of tickets to enter the event range between $35 and $125. Around the same time, Nike’s Mark Smith was also attending a Fodera Guitars event where he was spotted rocking the never-before-seen Air Jordan 4 Laser iteration seen above.
Sneakerheads will agree that they have seen numerous Air Jordan 4 Laser iterations in the past, but they will also not deny that there have been none like the one featured here. The photo of the sneaker that accompanies this post was shared on Instagram by user @urban.beast. At first glance, this Air Jordan 4 Laster rendition appears to be dressed up in the classic Fire Red color scheme. However, the obvious element that sets it apart are the laser engravings that cover its uppers. Rumor has it that Mark Smith may have actually designed this Air Jordan 4 Laser pair himself.
Hence, this also means that he likely designed just this particular one, exclusively for himself, which makes it a one-of-one. So, it is unlikely that this special Air Jordan 4 Laser colorway will ever make its way to retail shelves.
