It seemed that the Michigan Wolverines would have to remain dressed in their practice jerseys for the remainder of the Big Ten tournament because their game uniforms were left behind. Even John Beilein, the team’s head coach, had to continue wearing the same suit he was dressed in when their plane was leaving from the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, Michigan on March 8th. The plane actually skidded nearly 400 yards across the runway, coming to a halt into a ditch. They still made it to the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. to be a part of the tournament and they were all rocking various Air Jordan PEs.
An investigation is being carried out by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transport Safety Board to find out why the team’s charter flight malfunctioned. That is the reason that their luggage, which contained their game uniforms, had to be left behind in the plane’s cargo area because of the investigation. The Wolverines apparently had all three sets of their uniforms, as well as their shoes and warm-ups, in the luggage. Despite the somewhat scary situation, the Wolverines not only joined the game they were scheduled to be a part of, they even defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini with a score of 75-55.
Sneakerheads are probably wondering how the Michigan Wolverines were able to lace up in their respective Air Jordan PEs if their luggage was left behind. Perhaps Jordan Brand has got their back. Regardless, despite being light on uniforms, the Wolverines were heavy on the kicks, as was stated in one of the tweets posted on the team’s official Twitter account (@umichbball). Some of the athletes were rocking their Air Jordan 31 “Coaches vs. Cancer,” while others were sporting the Air Jordan 31 Low “Michigan.” However, some of them were wearing the Air Jordan 13 Low “Michigan” that was designed for the team just recently.
Most of the Air Jordan PEs spotted during the game, especially the Air Jordan 13 Low PE, actually matched their practice uniforms. So far, it is uncertain if the Michigan Wolverines will manage to their a hold of their luggage as the Big Ten tournament progresses.
