Nike Has Brought Back The Functional, Hybrid & Robust Foamdome Sneakerboot For The Winter

For many sneakerheads, the emergence of sneakerboots made sense as a more functional variation of traditional sneakers. The category itself is actually not very new, rather it actually surfaced in the past four years or so. Brands like adidas and Nike are currently leaders in this, but the origin of sneakerboots can be traced back to Nike Hiking line. Back in 1981, Nike Hiking had launched revolutionary models like the Approach, Escape, Lava and Magma. One of Nike’s most popular sneakerboot silhouette is the Foamdome. Considering that 2017 will the 20th anniversary of the Air Foamposite, it is only logical for the Nike Foamdome to make a comeback too.

Of course, these were hiking-specific models, so they featured elements like classic hiking soles and D-ring eyelets. The Nike Foamdome can be regarded as the predecessor of modern sneakerboots. Back in 2007, the Air Max Goadome was designed, combining Air Max soles with traditional leather boot uppers and the silhouette quickly became popular. Consequently, Nike decided to merge the already popular Goadome with the Foamposite model that was equally popular at that time, which is how the Foamdome was created.

In 2017, numerous original colorways of the Nike Air Foamposite will return. However, considering that winter is underway already, it makes sense that Nike wants to offer sneakerheads something winterized so they may get through the cold, snowy months ahead. That is why Nike has brought back the Air Foamdome in a colorway that has been nicknamed “Eggplant.” It is probably drawing inspiration from the Air Foamposite One “Eggplant,” which is returning next year as well. Hence, this Foamdome rendition’s uppers are dressed up in Purple-ish hue. It is equipped with its signature Air Max midsoles and robust outsoles. In terms of branding, this Foamdome looks a bit generic since the “Air” capsule from the 90s is featured on the tongues.
