Respect Your Roots is adidas Skateboarding’s ongoing series through which they honor and pay tribute to legends of the sport. Over the recent years, adidas has been celebrating skateboarding heritage and paying homage to legendary skateboarders with their “Respect Your Roots” Collections. Back in 2015, the adidas Skateboarding’s “Respect Your Roots” Collection paid homage to Drake Jones, Joey Blast, Kareem Campbell and Richard Angelides. It has been over two years now since Kobe Bryant played his final NBA game, prior to bidding farewell to the league and retiring from the sport of professional basketball. Ever since, he has working with Nike to release updated, “Retro” versions of his original signature sneakers, the first of these being the Zoom Kobe 1 Proto. For quite some time, Pharrell Williams has been one of adidas’ foremost collaborators. The partnership between adidas and Pharrell dates back to March 2014. Pharrell’s first official collaboration was with adidas Consortium in the form of the Stan Smith “Solid Pack,” which made its retail debut on September 20th, 2014. Back in March 2016, adidas even gave Pharrell his very own signature sneaker model, the PW ZX 333. The very first photo of the adidas NMD TS1 Primeknit was leaked online on Instagram by @sneakerprophet_. At the time, it was a brand new variation of the NMD that adidas had not released yet. One of its unique features includes the fact that its lacing system has tongue flaps on top of them and its sides are covered in a synthetic material. The NMD TS1 eventually made its retail debut as a part of the mita sneakers x adidas Consortium “Cages And Coordinates” Pack on July 14th. adidas seems to have further modified the NMD TS1 by incorporating the GORE-TEX fabric into its construction. Back in June 2017, Jordan Brand introduced the Super.Fly 2017, which was one of the two models that marked the debut of Nike’s full-length REACT core cushioning system. Additionally, it featured snug, one-piece uppers with graphic detailing inspired by the Air Jordan 4 and 11. During the Team USA Basketball Mini-Camp in Las Vegas on July 26th, 2018, Kemba Walker unveiled the latest model from the Super.Fly line on the court. Blake Griffin’s latest signature sneaker model has been named the Jordan Super.Fly MVP. It is finally set to make its retail debut in four different colorways among the Air Jordan releases 2018 in the coming weeks.
As a part of the adidas #imaginedby campaign, Andrew Wiggins designed a special pair of the ZX Flux, drawing inspiration from the suit he wore on his 2014 NBA Draft Day. Later that year, adidas whipped up a special Crazylight Boost 2015 PE iteration that featured his “AW” logo on the tongues and despite being a PE, it eventually hit the shelves in on July 17th, 2015. adidas Consortium was formally introduced back in 2015 as a program through which retailers could sell each other’s products and share minimum orders. Over the years though, adidas Consortium has become considerably more than just a network of some of the most influential and illustrious retailers from all over the world. Last year, Consortium has launched its own project dubbed “Workshop,” aiming to “explore” the prestigious history and story of adidas Originals. The latest collection from this “Workshop” project includes two brand new models, designed by the adidas in-house team without any external collaboration.
