Last year, Nike and the University of Michigan signed a contract worth $173.8 million, making Jordan Brand the official sponsor of the Michigan Wolverines. Ever since the signing of the contract, Jordan Brand has introduced PE iterations of all their models, all dressed up in the university’s official colors, namely Blue and Maize. It all started with the Air Jordan 5 PE that Jordan Brand whipped up for the University of Michigan Wolverines back in December 2016. While none of the Air Jordan 5 “Michigan” PEs have hit the shelves, this latest Air Jordan 12 Low colorway may seem like the closest thing to a retail version.
With the NCAA March Madness Tournament just around the corner, Jordan Brand whipped five different Air Jordan 31 Low PEs for five particular collegiate football teams. Along with the California Golden Bears, Georgetown Hoyas, Marquette Golden Eagles and the North Carolina Tar Heels, the Michigan Wolverines also received an Air Jordan 31 Low PE. Like the other Air Jordan “Michigan” PEs, the latest Air Jordan 13 Low colorway designed for the Wolverines also has predominantly Blue uppers. Maize appears as a secondary hue throughout the sneaker, both across the uppers and over the inner linings, while its midsoles are covered it plain White, paired with all-Blue outsoles.
Many sneakerheads may argue that the Air Jordan 12 Low featured here does not really pass off as a “Michigan” PE because of its subtle-looking uppers. However, if they take a look at the team’s White uniform instead of the colored one, they may actually find this believe. This Air Jordan 12 Low rendition is a monochromatic, tonal one, with its suede uppers completely dressed up in a light, subtle Grey hue. Sneakerheads searching for signs of the Michigan Wolverines’ colors would have to look at the back since both the Blue and Maize hues can be spotted over the heel tabs.
Of course, this sneaker is obvious not an actual “Michigan” PE and if it was, then sneakerheads would not be able to cop a pair, which is not the case. They can actually add this sneaker to their collection by spending $170 once it arrives at retailers on March 18th, 2017.
